Mumbai: Three men in their 40’s died after falling into a septic tank when the floor of the Public toilet collapsed in Mumbai’ Mankhurd on Friday. The incident took place in the morning at around 8.00 am.
According to the fire brigade officials, the three deceased has been identified as Harish Bipin Tikedar (40), Ganesh Rambhajan Shaha (40) and Mohammad Shabir Ansari (30). The incident took place at Mandala Mankhurd near Noori Masjid. The locals heard a loud noise of the men who fell into septic tank asking for help. The locals then alerted the fire brigade officials who rushed to the spot and started search operations. The three men had fell into the septic tank after the floor collapsed.
It was very difficult for the fire brigade officials to search the body as the tank was full of human excreta. After the long search operation the three body were removed and sent at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, where the doctors declared them dead before admission.
The locals said the Sulabh shauchalaya (Toilet) is very old and was in dilapidated condition. Nearly 500 people from slums use toilet daily on daily basis. The locals also said they had informed about the toilet condition but the BMC did nothing.
This is not the first time, the incident have taken place. In the year 2015, similar incident taken place where a 45-year-old woman died after falling into septic tank.
The locals living nearby slums have demanded to take action against the officials and demanded to built new toilets near the slums.
