The police found the skeleton of Alka Sahani, a 63-year-old widow. An IT professional from the US, who hadn’t been in touch with his aged mother for over a year, found her dead in her Oshiwara based apartment on Sunday. An autopsy examination will reveal the period when the death occurred and the cause of death.
Sahani’s husband, Kedarnath, died in 2013. Her son, Rituraj, lived in the US. According to the police, the woman was living alone and was depressed. Her last conversation with her son was in April 2016. At that time, she had told her son that she couldn’t bear to live alone any longer and was moving to an old age home. The two did not converse thereafter.
A senior police officer said, “On Sunday, Rituraj came down to India unannounced. He reached Lokhandwala complex in Andheri, where his mother lived, and rang the doorbell. But the door was locked from inside. He then summoned a keymaker and a hole was drilled in the door. The latch was opened through this hole. On entering inside, Rituraj found his mother’s skeleton. She was fully dressed.”
The Oshiwara police was informed and the body was sent to the Siddharth Hospital’s post-mortem centre. A case of accidental death was recorded by the Oshiwara police.
