Indrani Mukherjea, accused in Seena Bora murder case has been allowed a day release from Byculla jail to perfom her father’s last rites.

Indrani Mujherjea on Thursday, walks out of the jail, as Special CBI court allows her one day release to perform her father’s last rites. Indrani Mukherjea had filed a bail application on December 19 to perform last rituals after her father died on December 15.

Special Judge HS Mahajan partly allowed her plea, directing the Superintendent of Jail to release Indrani on the morning of December 27 along with police escorts, and ensuring she is brought back to jail by 7 pm. The court has directed Indrani to complete the rituals within Mumbai, either at her home or a temple of her choice.

The alleged murder of Sheena Bora came to light in 2015 when a former driver employed by the Mukerjeas confessed to police for allegedly assisting Indrani in committing the crime. Sheena Bora was allegedly strangled to death by Indrani with the help of her former husband Sanjeev Khanna. She was killed for entering into a relationship with Peter Mukerjea’s son from an earlier marriage. Rahul Mukherjea was repeatedly told that Sheena flew out of the country.
