Mumbai: Now the citizens of Maharashtra and the animal lovers can directly lodge a complaints or get information related to forest and wildlife. The Forest Department of Maharashtra has come up with an idea and will soon launch a state-wide call centre facility on Januray 6, 2017. The citizens can call 24×7 toll free number -1926 or 1800225364 , and get the information about the wildlife or can lodge complaints, any incident against animal cruelty. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is likely to do the inauguration in Nashik.
According to the sources, the call centre will be operated from Goregaon in Mumbai. A specially trained team of eight will man the helpline call-centre in Goregaon (west), while two coordinators, based in Nagpur and Pune, will supervise the work. The helpline will deal with emergencies by letting the caller speak to the officials concerned and will give an update, to the latter, on action taken on the information provided. It will be operational in 10 days after its inauguration.
The forest department appointed one SAAR IT Solutions Pvt Ltd in Goregaon for the service. The information technology (IT) director, the state forest department, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the company till August 2017.
State forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said, ‘The main aim is to make forest governance more credible, transparent and accountable to the public at large. We are expecting positive response from people as this platform will give freedom to them to come up with their ideas in order to handle a situation in their area.”
