Local Crime Branch (LCB) and its team nab two people who were about to smuggle Rhinoceros (animal) horn at Mumbai-Ahemdabad highway today at around 10.00 am in the morning. Harming and killing animals is illegal but there are many who are involve into this illegal business. The Rhino horn which is status symbol to display someone’s success and wealth is illegally supplied and sell with higher rates into the market.
According to the police, the two accused who caught smuggling the Rhino horn is identified as Salim Tambe (35) resident of Ratnagiri and Gulam Hussain aka Pappu Shaikh (38) from Vasai had planned sell the horn was on way to deliver near Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway. A close source of police inform the police about the illegal smuggling of Rhino.
Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Sharda Raut of Palghar District the LCB laid a trap near highway. The two accused who were in tempo were made to stop for the checking. As police asked them to come out the two tried to flee but the police nab them and seized five Rhino horns worth Rs 14,89,200. According to officials the Horns 150 years old and the demand for it is very costly.
Speaking to Mumbai Cutting, Superintendent of Police Sharda Raut of Palghar District said, ‘we received a tip-off from our sources today in the morning, acting on it we successfully nab both the accused. Both are in the custody for interrogation as we feel more people involve into this business.’
