In an unfortunate incident, several coaches of the Puri-Haridwar-Kalinga Utkal Express derailed in Muzaffarnagar’s Khatauli today (Saturday).

Rescue operations are underway and the number of casualties is yet to be ascertained, while hearsay is that more than a dozen passengers have been reportedly injured in the accident.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said, “An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident. Strict action will be taken against any lapse.”

“Medical vans have been rushed to the site. All efforts are being taken to ensure speedy relief and rescue operations,” Prabhu tweeted from his official handle.

Rescue and relief operations were swift enough to begin as soon as possible. The local district administration officials have rushed to the accident site and the NDRF teams have been mobilized.
