Yet once again the valiant Coast Guards exude nerve of steel at every given opportunity. They responded to distress calls from fishermen, when, four ICG ships and ALH helicopters have been on the job locating and rescuing boats and fishermen all day on 30th August, off the Gujarat coast.
The rough weather and turbulent sea state has led to several fishing boats going ashore or capsizing, which needed immediate rescue.
So far eight fishing boats and around 40 fishermen have been rescued in the rough sea and brought to safety. Search and rescue mission is still on in search of the other fishermen who were reported to have gone missing.
Earlier, the Coast Guard had made headlines when two Naviks saved a drowning woman at Gateway of India near Taj Mahal Hotel.
In another instance, the India Coast Guard helped rescue a foreign yacht in Lakshadweep, which had been drifting away due to power failure.
