Navi Mumbai: The Economic Offense Wing of Navi Mumbai has successfully arrested a gang of five for cheating and looting people worth Rs 3.1 crore under pretext of providing admission in Medical College. The accused had duped 17 people and fled away with Rs 3.1 crore. There are three more people involve in the case and are yet to be traced.
According to the police, the accused are identified as Abhishek Jha (25), Saurabh Singh (24), Gaurav Singh (26), Sushil Kumar Verma (30), Hemandra Sarkar (31). ” the arrested accused are student of Engineering college and had came in contact while studying there. Five out if eight have been arrested, search for three is on”, said a police officer attached to this case.
The accused had made fake documents like Adhar card pan card on which they had rent a house at Navi Mumbai. Later they hired a shop near Sanpada station road and started a recruitment agency named the aspiration. They later hired 7-8 ladies who used to communicate with the student who are in search of admission in medical collage’s. “The accused promised the victim to provide admission in Smt. Kashibai Navle, Trena medical college, Arvindra Medical collage from its administration quote and later asked they to deposited the amount in the account which they had created with the help of fake document at Axis and ICICI bank respectively”, said Hemant Nagrale , Commissioner of police.
Accused later asked the victims to collect there admission card on September 23 and later fled away with the amount, following to which a case under sections 420, 465, 468, 471, 120 (b) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
A team of police officer were formed and were sent to Delhi, Gujarat and other cities to carryout a search for the accused. ‘On February 14, acting on a tip-off from its confidential source,cops later a trap and arrested the accused from there house’ officer added.
Interacting to media Hemant Nagrale CP, Navi Mumbai said,” the arrested accused had confessed their crime. Five out of eight accused have been arrested search of three is on”. We have seizes Rs 10,41,459 cash and also seized a Hyundai Verna car, Honda Activa, laptop and iPhone worth rs 11,51,451 from the accused, he added. Investigation revealed that they have duped 17 victim under this. They were present before the court and have remanded to police custody for further investigation,he added.
