The two conjoined twins who shared common thorax, spine, heart, abdomen, stomach and pelvis died on Tuesday died of respiratory problems, doctors attending at them said today. Shahin Khan who gave birth to two conjoined twins in the month of July at Sion Hospital. Nearly four months after their birth the conjoined twins were brought at Lokmanya Tilak Muncipal, Sion after the parents complain of fever and died during the treatment.
Diagnosed in an ultrasonography test conducted at the hospital during their mother’s 32nd week of pregnancy, the twins were born at the civic-run Sion Hospital here in July this year. Their parents, Shahin Khan and Irshad Khan, an assistant in a Dadar shop, and doctors had a tough time in treating the twins because of their complicated body structure.

The hospital management had earlier set up a committee comprising of doctors to separate the twins, but their mother did not give her consent over apprehensions about survival of the babies.

Bodies were sent for a post-mortem to establish the cause of death, according to the norms of medico-legal cases after which the bodies will be handed over to the parents.
