Mumbai: A horrifying incident took place at Kurla Station on Tuesday night where a woman crushed to death when a chain-snatcher snatched the chain from woman’s neck and pushed her in front of train. The accused chain snatcher has been arrested by the Kurla, Railway Police Force (RPF).
According to the sources, the incident took place on Tuesday night, the woman waiting for the train near ladies compartment at Kurla Station platform number 1 at around 8.15 pm.
As per the GRP, the woman has been identified as Sapna Shukla resident of Ghatkpar. The woman works at HDFC Life Insurance company at BKC branch was on her way to home to catch train from Kurla. As the train entered at Kurla Station, a chain snatcher snatched chain from woman’s neck and pushed her in front of train and trying to escape from the spot.
The passengers chased the man thrashed him and handed over to Railway Police Force who then hand-over to Government Railway Police (GRP). After the incident railway officials were alerted to remove the body of a woman and rushed to the hospital but declared dead before admission.. After 20-minutes, the woman’s body was removed from the tracks and sent the body for the post-mortem.
One witness- who was standing near the luggage compartment said, the woman was eating Bhel when the chain snatcher attack her from behind. The whole incident got captured into Close-Circuit Television (CCTV) installed at the platform.
According to RPF officials the woman is said to be pregnant while the GRP said the Woman is not pregnant and is not married. The question has been raised whom to believe, RPF or GRP.
Speaking to GRP officials the accused has been booked under sections 304 and 393 of IPC. The accused who hails from Odisha didn’t had money so he snatched the chain to get sum money. He has been remanded in the police custody for further investigation.
