The convicts of 1993 Mumbai blasts finally get sentenced after 24 years of the heinous crime that shook Mumbai two decades ago. A special court in Mumbai today announced the quantum of sentence against convicts Abu Salem, Feroz Abdul Rashid Khan, Taher Merchant, Karimullah Khan and Riyaz Siddiqui.

While Abu Salem and Karimullah Khan were sentenced to life imprisonment, Feroz Abdul Rashid Khan and Tahir Merchant were given death sentence. Riyaz Siddiqui was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The blasts which claimed 257 and left 713 people injured, the mastermind Mustafa Dossa had been convicted by the Court on June 16 this year.

The fateful event left the survivors scarred for life. The case against Mustafa Dossa was closed because he died on June 28 while the sentencing arguments were going on in court.

The CBI had claimed that the role of Dossa was “more severe” than Yakub Memon, who was hanged in July 2015 in the same case.

The CBI had also claimed that the main conspirators of the blasts were Dossa, Merchant and Feroz.
